Gerald Kagan retired from the Metropolitan Opera, after 39 years as associate principal cellist, to pursue his dual interests of fine bowmaking and jewelry design. He has also designed and patented several innovative tools for musicians, including a double-sided cello endpin that never dulls and a self-adjusting sharpening jig for double reeds.
